I am a writer and former director of museum education.
As a child, I’d sit in an apple tree and read and dream of being a writer. Now I write picture books and middle grade novels—with the occasional scene of a girl climbing a tree.
I write for the shy, quiet introvert in me and all the kids out there who need to know how important it is to be yourself. My stories are whimsical and fantastical, with humor, heart, and a good dose of puns. My characters often find their voice, achieve something no one thought they could, or discover the power of their imagination.
After graduating from Brown University, I earned an MFA in Fiction Writing from Columbia University. An active member of SCBWI, 12x12 Picture Book Challenge, and Courage to Create communities, I’ve studied writing for children at Storyteller Academy, the Writing Barn, and mentorships with acclaimed authors.
I believe everyone is creative. Throughout my career directing education programs at museums in New York City and the Berkshires, I found ways to connect audiences of all ages to art. Whether the program was a photography class for neighborhood kids or jazz musicians improvising in the galleries, we invited people to connect to art, the world, each other, and their creative side.
When I’m not writing, reading, or climbing trees, I enjoy taking photographs, painting watercolors, playing the piano, cooking, and gardening. I’m obsessed with raising heirloom dahlias. I sneak chocolate whenever I can.
Most of all, I enjoy every second of being a mother. I live in Rhode Island with my wonderful daughter and our silver tabby Moonbeam.
